This is news, views and topics from stmdailynews.com let's get to today's topic. [00:00:17] Speaker B: When we talk about population density, perception and reality don't always match New York City is by far the densest major city in the country, averaging more than 27,000 people per square mile. That density comes from building up, not out. Supported by one of the largest transit systems in the world, Chicago tells a different story. At roughly 12,000 people per square mile, it's dense but with more breathing room than New York. Balancing vertical growth with traditional neighborhoods, Los Angeles often gets labeled as endless sprawl, yet its city density sits around 8,500 people per square mile, lower than Chicago, but still among the densest cities in the nation. The real surprise comes when we zoom out. Los Angeles metro area is actually denser than New York's overall, thanks to a more continuously developed region. Density shapes transportation, housing and daily life, and understanding it helps explain why cities work the way they do. That's today's knowledge from STM Daily News.
