Gizmodo has premiered the award-winning animated short film Shimmer (also known as Fulgores*), winner of Mexico’s 2025 Ariel Award for Best Animated Short Film.* Written and directed by Andrés Palma, the visually stunning story explores themes of fatherhood, regret, and redemption through a striking blend of handcrafted artistry and cutting-edge animation created in Unreal Engine 5. The film is now streaming exclusively on Gizmodo’s io9 as part of its Oscar® “For Your Consideration” campaign. Watch the short here.
