[00:00:03] If you grew up around technology in the 90s or early 2000s, there's a good chance Fry's Electronics wasn't just a store, it was a destination. [00:00:13] Walking into Fry's felt like stepping into the future. [00:00:17] The automatic doors opened, and suddenly you were surrounded by glowing monitors, endless aisles of computer parts, and towering themed sets. UFOs, ancient temples, sci fi movie prop. [00:00:32] You didn't just shop there, you explored. For many of us, Fry's was where we built our first PC, bought our first dvd, or wandered for hours with no real plan other than curiosity. [00:00:46] You could pick up a single resistor, a sound card, and a microwave all in the same trip. [00:00:53] And somehow that made perfect sense. [00:00:56] There was a time when Fry's felt like the center of tech culture, Especially here in California. [00:01:03] Engineers, students, gamers, and weekend tinkerers all crossed paths in those aisles. [00:01:09] It was loud, busy, sometimes chaotic, and absolutely unforgettable. [00:01:16] But like so many icons of that era, Fry's couldn't survive the shift to online shopping. [00:01:23] The shelves emptied, the crowds faded, and by 2021, the lights went out for good. [00:01:30] Today, those massive buildings still stand as quiet reminders of a time when buying technology felt like an adventure. [00:01:38] Fry's Electronics may be gone, but for a lot of us, the memories are still powered on. [00:01:45] That's today's Knowledge series from STM Daily News.
