[00:00:00] Speaker A: Foreign. [00:00:06] Speaker B: Welcome back to STM Daily News. Today we're talking about a growing and worrying trend. People chasing viral moments on social media, often putting themselves and others in danger. [00:00:17] Speaker A: From freeway stunts in Los Angeles to TikTok videos in New York, the pursuit of online fame can have serious real world consequences. First, let's look at Los Angeles in November 2023. Eduardo Eric Martinez allegedly orchestrated a stunt that stopped Traffic on the 110 freeway during rush hour. Police say he used several vehicles to block the freeway so he could film a music video, including cars performing donuts around him. Authorities are calling it incredibly reckless behavior, and he now faces felony charges that could mean years in prison. This is a textbook example of how chasing a few seconds of social media attention can end in serious legal trouble and put countless innocent people at risk. Meanwhile, in Oswego, New York, a DoorDash driver posted videos of a partially nude, unconscious man in his home on TikTok. She claimed she was assaulted, but police found no evidence to support that claim. Instead, she's now facing felony charges for unlawful surveillance and posting the video online. What's striking here is how the drive to capture and share a viral moment may have overshadowed judgment, ethics, and even the law. It's a cautionary tale. Social media can amplify everything, good or bad, and sometimes the fallout is unavoidable. These incidents are not isolated. We're seeing a pattern of people risking safety, legality and ethics for online attention. The platform's reward, spectacle and shock value. And for some, that reward outweighs common sense. But the consequences arrest, backlash, or worse can be life altering. So what's the takeaway? Viral fame may feel like a shortcut to recognition, but it comes at a real cost. Fame gained recklessly isn't free. It can ruin lives, damage reputations, and even put others in harm's way. Next time you scroll through your feed, think twice before chasing likes or shares at the expense of safety or ethics. For STM Daily News, I'm Dolores Rafael reminding you viral moments might be flashy, but consequences are permanent. Thanks for joining me for this episode. [00:02:24] Speaker B: Of STM Daily News.
